Question 60
Dr N,
I am 26 years old. I had a hysterectomy February of 1999 and they removed everything but one ovary. I had severe bleeding (1 box of tampons in a night) and ovarian cysts. My Dr. said I was the youngest patient she's had that had a hysterectomy. Lately I have been very hot (especially at night) and tired all the time but yet I can't go to sleep at night and more irritable (but that could be because I now stay home with my 3 and 4 year old when before I worked). The dr. put me on birth control and took blood for a hormone test. I have vaginal (severe) itching but she says I don't have an infection just dry from loss of estrogen. I don't know what I should take for the itching. I also need help getting sleep at night. I've also been told that I could need another surgery to remove the one ovary I do have if it fails. Is this true? I just have a lot of questions. Being so young, having this done at age 25, I have heard too many horror stories about things that are going to go wrong with me.
Thank you

I am sorry that you are having these problems. You are very young and shouldn't have to be dealing with these issues. I think that the best thing for you would be to see a doctor you specializes in menopause and is familiar with effective treatments for your problems. This will give you the best chance to regain your quality of life.
I don't know where you live, but it may be near someone I know who fits that category. Please let me know in what state and near what large city you live and I'll let you know.
Meanwhile, read the section of the web site, Hysterectomy and the sections that deal with HRT as they will provide insight for you, which will help steer you in the right direction.
Get back to me and we will go from there.
